Contribution to the SDGs by lenses from plant-derived materials
The world’s first plastic ophthalmic lens made from plant-derived materials was launched in 2015.
This product not only reduces CO2 emissions compared to conventional lenses made from oil-derived materials, but also makes an important contribution to our SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) activities.
Better Lens, Better Environment.
Biomass 174 is a plastic high index ophthalmic lens made from plant-derived materials. This innovative lens can reduce CO2 emissions by 14% compared to conventional products, while maintaining the same physical properties as traditional lenses.
Asahi Lite Optical manufactures Biomass 174 with rigorous control measures.

Eco-friendly and Sustainable Lens, BIOMASS174
Many products we use, such as plastics and gasoline, are made from oil. Similarly, plastic ophthalmic lenses are usually made from oil. However, Do Green ™M material is made from glycerin, which is a by-product generated during the purification of biodiesel from plant-derived waste oil. Therefore, we can proudly say that Biomass 174 is an eco-friendly and sustainable lens.
